Core values are written in words, but they’re intended to translate into action. How can organizations ensure that this happens? The Bainum Family Foundation recently embarked on a journey to revisit and refine our four core values, which were inspired by our founders. Over the past few years, we’ve explicitly defined what each value looks like in practice and behavior. We also developed a common language and integrated our values and behaviors into our daily work — from updating our performance management system to examining our funding practices to ensuring the values reflect our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. And we did this all with the goal of aligning our values with our organizational culture and strategy.
This presentation will be part case study and part how-to. We will share lessons learned and tools from our values journey to facilitate collaborative discussions — all to help you begin developing, articulating, and embedding your own organization’s core values to advance your day-to-day work, enhance your culture and, ultimately, advance your overall mission.
